A Hidden Jewelry Gem in Perkins Cove: Salt & Silver

If you find yourself visiting Ogunquit, one place you absolutely can't miss is Perkins Cove. It's everything you picture when you think of coastal Maine. Working boats, sailboats gently rocking in the harbor, salty ocean air, stunning waterfront views, and charming little shops tucked around every corner. It's the kind of place you can spend hours exploring.

My kids and I stayed overnight at the Abalonia Inn, which was a 5 min drive from Perkins Cove. We spent the afternoon wandering the cove after grabbing one of the best lobster rolls around at Footbridge Lobster. With full bellies, we started popping into some of the local shops.

I'll admit, sometimes places like Perkins Cove can be a little intimidating. The shops are so beautiful that I automatically assume everything will be way out of my price range. Thankfully, I was wrong.

One shop that immediately caught my eye was Salt & Silver. I spotted their sign while eating my lobster roll and if you've followed Maine Scuttlebutt for any length of time, you already know I have a slight obsession with sea glass. The shop itself sits up a small flight of stairs and is absolutely adorable inside.

Everywhere I looked there were beautiful handcrafted pieces. While I was browsing, I had the chance to meet one of the owner Susan, who shared the story behind Salt & Silver. She told me the idea for the shop began while she and a friend were daydreaming during a vacation about opening their own jewelry store. Instead of letting it remain a dream, they actually made it happen.

One of the coolest things about Salt & Silver is that much of the jewelry is made right there in the shop. Susan also told me that locals often bring in sea glass they've found along Maine's beaches to be transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. How special is that?

Another thing that really impressed me was Susan's commitment to keeping the jewelry affordable, even as the price of silver continues to climb. That's something you don't hear often these days.

Although I'm usually more of a gold girl, I loved that they also offer beautiful gold-filled pieces alongside their sterling silver collection. Their jewelry features materials like sea glass, freshwater pearls, sterling silver, precious metal clay, and chalcedony, creating timeless pieces that feel uniquely inspired by the Maine coast.

I ended up leaving with a gorgeous freshwater pearl bracelet that I absolutely love. In fact, I've worn it so much that you can literally see the tan line where it sits on my wrist—and I think that says it all.
