CANOPY BY HILTON PORTLAND WATERFRONT - PERFECT STAY FOR A HEARTS OF PINE GAME

I was lucky enough to be invited to stay at the Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront while we were filming our Dirigo Union / Hearts of Pine Maine Scuttlebutt episode and it ended up being one of those stays that just checks every box.
When I told my husband I’d be staying there, his immediate response was: “You have to check out the rooftop bar.” He’s a pilot and basically lives in hotels, so when he says a place stands out, I listen.

The hotel was incredibly easy to find and perfectly located right in downtown Portland—close to everything you’d want to do. I pulled right up to the valet, which honestly felt like the easiest option.
Insider tip: Valet parking is actually slightly less expensive than the lot next door, which is a rare win in a city.

From the moment I walked in, the experience felt elevated. I was greeted by the sweetest front desk team, and the lobby immediately caught my eye. Clean, sleek, and thoughtfully designed. They even have bikes available for guests to explore the city… although, for the record, nobody needs to see me navigating Portland traffic on a bike. Trust me.

My videographer, Adam, met me at the hotel and we headed up to the room to map out our filming plan. The room itself was beautiful—spacious, spotless, and incredibly inviting.

Waiting for me were some amazing local goodies from The Salt Yard and my favorite Maine Love Water, which instantly made it feel personal and very Maine Scuttlebutt-approved.

Before heading out to film, we knew we needed to fuel up. We went down to The Salt Yard for lunch, and honestly, everything on the menu looked tempting—but we both landed on the turkey Rachel.

It was exactly what we needed: hearty, flavorful, and just really well done. I paired it with a salted caramel latte that I will absolutely be thinking about for a while. I’d go back for that alone.

After lunch, we grabbed our gear and took a quick (and very affordable—about $6) Uber over to The Portland Zoo. If you’re heading to a Hearts of Pine match, starting your day there is a must.
We spent time filming, meeting some incredible people, and soaking in the energy before walking toward the field, passing brewery after brewery along the way (another reminder of why Portland is such a great city).

The game itself was a blast… but cold even in April. Thats Maine for ya. By the end, all I could think about was getting back to that cozy hotel room.
Another quick Uber later, and we were back.

The location really can’t be beat. Whether you want to walk or Uber, everything is just minutes away and affordable to get to.
I was so excited to get back into that comfortable bed that we skipped the rooftop bar entirely… which, again, just means I’ll be back.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Portland, I can’t recommend the Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront enough. Between the thoughtful design, spacious rooms, incredible location, and genuinely kind staff, it’s the kind of place that makes your whole trip better.

And next time… I’m making it to that rooftop bar.
